With nearly 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship and global business management, James has left his imprint on multiple businesses and companies. As a strategist, his skills include guerilla marketing and branding, operations, and revenue analysis, all backed by a natural gift for consultative sales. When he was young, James spent days and night coding games and building websites. A confident risk-taker who had a love for technology and the internet brought James to California on a bus to chase the “dotcom” rush. James ultimately landed in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley, but, he wasn’t coding…instead, organizations felt that with his technical knowledge and natural gift of selling, he was more suited in recruiting and working with management to scale. After the boom, James found himself in a senior position with one of the largest companies in the world, Fujitsu of Japan (a global company with revenue in the trillions) traveling the country recruiting and hiring the organization’s sales force. When the company relocated it’s division back to Tokyo, he started a management consulting firm, which later became, Bristol Bates. Under his leadership the company expanded, providing services to financial firms, venture-backed start-ups, and also Fortune 500 organizations. Notable clients include the U.S. Government and Intel Capital Venture-backed portfolio companies.
In 2005, after spearheading the expansion of our company into newer and more diverse evolving markets, he began working with client owners and investing in disruptive markets such as digital entertainment, alternative medicine, and other disruptive markets. As an advisor, he led our consulting teams and managed multiple companies and partnerships as a “C-level” operator. Under his guidance, our company evolved and grew in multiple industries with investment projects and joint-venture in the U.S., Canada, and Spain/Europe.
In 2015 we began several significant ventures with internet holding companies and conglomerates. One key client, founded in 1996, owns multiple internet properties visited by millions of users daily. James currently reports to the board and oversees a nationwide staff in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Phoenix, Arizona.
During his 20+ years as an entrepreneur, James has advised and worked alongside investors, boards, and C-level executives to help shape and build small and mid-level organizations into powerhouses. Functionally, James has held senior-level roles across the C-suite and numerous hands-on revenue impacting roles in business strategy and development.
As a founding member and shareholder in our organization, and now strategic consultant, the energy and passion James brings to everything he does continues to be a driving force behind our success.
Mr. Mai is an active investor in technology, crowdfunding, and both residential and commercial real estate REITs. James resides in Irvine, California, and enjoys the beach, traveling, fitness, and spending time with his family and two sons.
